Mr. Takeo Kanade
U. A. and Helen Whitaker University Professor of Carnegie Mellon University
Takeo Kanade is the U. A. and Helen Whitaker University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1974. After holding a faculty position in the Department of Information Science, Kyoto University, he joined Carnegie Mellon University in 1980. He was the Director of the Robotics Institute from 1992 to 2001, and a founding Director of Quality of Life Technology Research Center from 2006 to 2012. In Japan, he founded the Digital Human Research Center in Tokyo and served as the founding director from 2001 to 2010. Dr. Kanade works in multiple areas of robotics: computer vision, multi-media, manipulators, autonomous mobile robots, medical robotics and sensors and has written more than 400 technical papers and reports in these areas, and holds more than 25 patents.
Dr. Kanade has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and also to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The awards he received include the Benjamin Franklin Institute Medal and Bower Prize, Okawa Award, C&C Award, ACM/AAAI Allen Newell Award, Joseph Engelberger Award, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Pioneer Award, and ICCV Azriel Rosenfeld Lifetime Accomplishment Award.

Prof. Jerry M. Hultin
Chairman, The Global Futures Group, LLC

Jerry Hultin is an authority on innovation and its role in creating a more dynamic 21st century global economy. He is the Chairman of the Global Futures Group, LLC, a company organized to support technology’s role in improving the quality of life and inclusiveness of cities around the world.

Mr. Hultin recently completed fifteen years of academic leadership in New York City, including the creation of business incubators, student competitions, angel funding, media labs, game design centers, and more. Working closely with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mr. Hultin’s creation of these business, academic, and government initiatives helped transform NYC into one the world’s leading high-tech economies.

From 2013 to 2015, Mr. Hultin served as Senior Presidential Fellow for global innovation at New York University and from 2005 to 2013 as president of Polytechnic University / Institute (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering). From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Hultin was dean of the school of technology management at Stevens Institute of Technology.

From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Hultin was President Clinton’s Under Secretary of the Navy. In this role, he was Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen’s adviser on innovation and business transformation at the Pentagon.
Mr. Hultin is currently an urban strategy adviser to the World Economic Forum (Davos) and UN Habitat; chair of the Global Advisory Board for the Smart Cities Expo World Congress in Barcelona; a science and technology expert on Malaysia’ Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council; and an adviser to presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, and Secretary of Defense Ash Carter on innovation.
Mr. Hultin is a graduate of Yale Law School, Ohio State University and Harvard University’s new presidents program.

Mr. David Ehrenberg
President and CEO, Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation

David Ehrenberg serves as the President & CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC), overseeing its 330 tenants and 1.8 million SF expansion. Prior to joining BNYDC, Mr. Ehrenberg was an Executive Vice President and co-head of the Real Estate Transaction Services group at the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). While at NYCEDC, Mr. Ehrenberg was a senior manager on many of the City’s priority economic development projects including: the Applied Sciences initiative that resulted in Cornell’s new campus on Roosevelt Island; the redevelopment of six acres of vacant land on the Lower East Side known as Seward Park; the Atlantic Yards project; as well as the creation and implementation of hundreds of millions of dollars of programs to support small businesses after Hurricane Sandy. In addition to marquee projects, he supervised dozens of industrial and manufacturing projects across the City and supervised the operations of the City’s Industrial Development Agency.

Before joining NYCEDC, Mr. Ehrenberg worked at South Brooklyn Legal Services as the coordinator for a microenterprise program. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University where he majored in government and urban studies, was a Fulbright Fellow in Zimbabwe, and received dual Masters Degrees from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University in Public Policy and Urban Planning.

Mr. Haruki Tsuchiya
President, Kyoto Eco Energy Institute
President of Kyoto Eco Energy Institute. He founded Research Institute for Systems Technology in 1979 and has worked as the president. He has worked in future energy scenarios with efficient technology and renewable energy to reduce GHG emission. He studied the learning curve of photovoltaics. He joined in making report for IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). He worked as a member of several national committees on energy and global warming.

Ali oversees an analyst team focused on research and analysis of Japan’s energy sector. His prior experience includes working at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, and the fuel cell manufacturer, Ballard Power Systems. Ali has an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a Doctorate in Materials Science from Meijo University.

Dr. Yutaka Kidawara

Dr. Yutaka Kidawara is a director general of Universal Communication Research Institute, NICT in Japan. He is leading of research projects of Universal Communication, Bigdata and AI area. He conducted information analysis research projects as a group leader from 2007 to 2011.He received his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Kobe University in 1988, 1990, and 1999, respectively. He was a deputy director for the Information and Communications Technology division of the Council for Science and Technology Policy, Cabinet Office Government of Japan in 2006, a senior researcher at the NICT/CRL from 2001 to 2005, and a researcher at Kobe Steel Ltd. from 1990 to 2000.

During his tenure at GS Japan Storage Battery Co., Ltd., Dr. Tsukamoto developed and manufactured the world’s first rectangular Ni-Cd battery and helped the commercialization of the Motorola Micro TAC cell phone and Sony’s cassette case-sized Walkman. In addition, he assumed a leading role in the development and manufacturing of Li-Al batteries for military applications as well as portable thin Li-ion batteries. Dr. Tsukamoto founded Quallion LLC in 1999, and took initiative in projects developing and manufacturing high-reliability Li-ion batteries for medical, aerospace, and military applications. Dr. Tsukamoto was awarded the Technology Award of International Battery and Material Association, the Frost Sullivan Award, and Boeing’s Technology Supplier Award for his outstanding achievements in the field of special applications of Li-ion batteries. Quallion’s human body embedded type storage battery (magnetic remote chargeable) has been implanted in tens of thousands of people. It is expected that all of the batteries in U.S. military satellites will be replaced with the Quallion-made batteries in the future.
Dr. Tsukamoto left Quallion in 2012 and founded CONNEXX SYSTEMS Corporation in Kyoto, Japan aiming to apply his rich stores of knowledge about high-reliability storage batteries to civilian use, especially in the fields of mobile bodies and renewable energy.
